Camp Good Grief
On Thursday I took photos at Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado's Itty Bitty kids camp, Camp Good Grief. It was something that is close to my heart and I have wanted to give back to hospice for a while now. They were wonderful to my mother when she was sick and allowed her to keep her independence as long as possible. They also hold a grief group at the school where I work that I co-facilitate, and I have seen how beneficial that is for children who are dealing with the loss of a loved one.
The theme for this years camp was "Giddyup Grief". The kids (and staff) wore badges and cowboy hats, raced around on stick horses (mostly kids on this one) and ended the day with a "campfire" where they told the stories of their losses and then made a memorial box. The kids had a great time, even though parts of the day were solemn. Here are a few photos from the camp. I can't show the kids faces so you are seeing the ones without many identifying characteristics.
